NEW RELEASE | Nanlite PavoTubes and App

After the wild success of the original series, Nanlite has just announced a new series of PavoTube lights, alongside a brand new app. Read on to discover all the new and updated features!
A New Generation – PavoTube Mark II
We already had a second-generation version of Nanlite’s smallest PavoTube, the 6C, and we are very pleased to announce that both the mid-length 15C and the long 30C have had an upgrade too. These new models (now called 15X and 30X) are updated in both form and function and come as single lights, or sets of 2, 4, and even 8 tubes.
But wait, there’s more! Not satisfied with a 4-foot long light, Nanlite has also released a brand new ultra-long 8-foot PavoTube, the 60X. Take a look at the video below to see the lights in action at our Ponsonby store.
(Better yet, download the app and come by to have a play!)
Let’s explore everything that’s been improved.
In terms of physical appearance, these new lights don’t appear to be so different. However, the construction is now partly aluminium so they do feel more solid, and the diffusion plastic is more even, meaning that you can’t see individual LEDs anymore. Alongside this, the tubes also have three 1/4-20 mounts, a USB-C port, and their firmware is updatable.
These lights have had a great performance boost and now feature higher power outputs, higher Colour Rendering Index (CRI) and Television Lighting Consistency Index (TLCI) scores, a much broader Correlated Colour Temperature (CCT) range, and very importantly, more wireless connection options. There is also a ‘pixel function’, which means you get more (and more detailed) lighting effects!

Pixel Effects
Along with the new app, Nanlite’s new Pixel Effects are a very exciting development, as they offer a whole new set of creative options when lighting your scene. Previously, the lights could only show one colour at a time, but now with individual pixel control, it’s possible to have multiple colours animated across the length of the tube.
New Accessories
With great products comes the need for great accessories. Thankfully, Nanlite has also released a set of new items to help use your PavoTubes to their full potential. These are a floor stand, a magnetic tube clip, a barndoor and eggcrate set, an eyebolt, a multi-angle mount, DMX adapters, and lastly waterproof tubes. There’s also a new frame that allows you to group up to eight lights together to create one larger light (you have to see it to believe it!). With these, you’ll be able to set up and direct your light in completely new ways – we’re pretty excited about the underwater option!

Nanlink App

Hot on the heels of the handy Godox and Aputure apps, Nanlite has unveiled the new Nanlink App. This is a huge development, and is a welcome addition to the functionality of not only PavoTubes, but a whole range of Nanlite products. The app is available for iOS through the AppStore and through a direct download for Android OS. A dedicated Android and iPad app are expected in the new year, though.
There are two ways to connect your device to your light: a direct Bluetooth connection for supported devices, and a 2.4Ghz connection with the new Nanlink Box (see more below).
The app is very simple to use and gives more control over the PavoTubes than is possible with just their physical buttons. It’s easy to create lighting scene presets in which you can group multiple lights together, all while still programming them individually. You can easily set custom colours, combinations, effects, and speed with a set of sliders, and save them with your own titles. It’s all very intuitive!
Nanlink Box
With all these new releases, you might be forgiven for feeling that you should upgrade all your lights to gain wireless control of them. The good news is that Nanlite now offer the perfect accessory: the Nanlink Box. It acts as an intermediate control point: place it 10 to 20 metres from your light fixture and connect it to your mobile device to gain up to 50 metres of range. With it, almost every light in the Nanlite range can be wirelessly controlled*!

It contains two built-in modules for both Bluetooth and 2.4Ghz connectivity, a 2400mAh battery for up to 10 hours of runtime, and at just 170 grams is highly portable. It can also run off a portable powerbank for longer use. It’s the perfect companion for your lighting setup!

Below is a table of compatibility – check to see how your light can be used with the app!
