SIRUI 1.6x Anamorphic Lenses & 1.25x Anamorphic Adapter

SIRUI has unveiled new 35mm and 100mm 1.6x anamorphic lenses, as well as a 1.25x anamorphic adapter. The whole reason behind this was to create a budget anamorphic lens solution with a 2x squeeze for more noticeable anamorphic characteristics. These lenses join the existing 50mm and 75mm 1.6x anamorphic lenses.

The 1.6x lineup comes in RF, L, E, and Z-Mount. All the lenses share common characteristics.

1.25x Anamorphic Adapters

The 1.25x anamorphic adapter utilizes a single front focus design and it can not only be used with the SURUI 1.6x anamorphic lenses, but also with spherical lenses as well.

This combination of their 1.6x anamorphic lenses and the 1.25x anamorphic adapter results in a squeeze factor of 2x. Above you can see some comparison images.

The 1.25x adapter has an 82mm rear thread so it can attach directly to the front of the 1.6x anamorphic lenses or any spherical lens with an 82mm front filter diameter. When using the 1.25x anamorphic adapter the minimum focusing distance is 80cm / 2.62′.

SURUI also offers three step-down rings (82-67mm, 82-72mm, 82-77mm) and a step-up ring (92-82mm) so you can use it with other lenses.

Above you can see how the adapter works. Just like other anamorphic adapters, they can be fiddly to use and you need to physically line it up correctly to make sure the flares are horizontal. I have personally never been the biggest fan of anamorphic adapters, but that’s not to say other people don’t like them.
According to SURUI, if you use the 1.25x adapter with spherical lenses you can obtain signature anamorphic characteristics like a widescreen aspect ratio and blue lens flares.

The 1.25x anamorphic adapter weighs 650g / 22.92 oz and it is just 4.65cm / 1.83″ long.

Above you can see the compatibility with SIRUI’s own lenses and what other types of lenses it will work with in terms of sensor size and focal lengths.
